Standoff at Mamaroneck Home Ends

The incident took place yesterday at a home on Woodbine Avenue.

The standoff at a home in Mamaroneck came to an end yesterday more than seven hours after it began.

A man had barricaded himself inside a home on 813 Woodbine Ave. around 11:30 Monday morning. He has been taken into custody, according to news reports.

Detective Sandra Diruzza, a spokesperson for the Mamaroneck Police Department, told Patch earlier in the day that police believed the man was unarmed. Diruzza could not give more details about the incident when Patch spoke to her, but she said it was standard protocol for police to call in a SWAT team when events like this take place.

Woodbine Avenue was blocked for most of the day, beginning from Rockland Avenue and Carpenter Place. Police also blocked the outside perimeter of the area around Sand Street, Richbell Road, Palmer Avenue and Harmon Drive.

Several residents had been told not to leave home and others who weren't home when the incident began weren't being allowed back into their residences.

Mamaroneck High School was placed on lockdown earlier in the afternoon. The school has cancelled all after school activities for this evening.

A SWAT team is currently responding to an incident in which a man has barricaded himself in a home on Woodbine Avenue in Mamaroneck.

The man is reportedly unarmed, according to Detective Sandra Diruzza, a spokesperson for the Mamaroneck Police Department.

The incident began around 11:30 Monday morning at a home on 813 Woodbine Avenue. Diruzza could not give more details about the incident when Patch spoke to her, but she said it is standard protocol for police to call in a SWAT team when events like this take place.

Woodbine Avenue is currently blocked, beginning from Rockland Avenue and Carpenter Place. Several residents have been told not to leave home and others who weren't home when the incident began aren't being allowed back into their homes.

Mamaroneck High School is currently on lockdown. The school has advised parents not to pick up their children. School officials said they will alert parents of any early dismissal plans. The full message is below:

Students will not be permitted to leave or be picked up from Mamaroneck High School due to a lockdown as a result of police activity in the area. We want to ensure you of the safety of your children and will further advise you of the situation as we work closely with law enforcement.  This incident has not occurred within the building, but all measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the building. Police activity is taking place on a side street near the building (police have closed off Woodbine, from Fulton to Rockland) and this is a precautionary measure directed by the police department. Please do not attempt to come pick up your child at this time; it will only cause more confusion.We will keep you posted regarding dismissal plans.
