LoHud: Shot NYC Officer From West Harrison

A New York City police officer shot in a Bronx housing project lives in West Harrison, according to The Journal News.

Officer Robert Salerno is in stable condition after being shot Monday afternoon while responding to a 911 call in a Bronx housing project. The suspected shooter died at the scene.

The Journal News has reported that the 25-year-old lives in West Harrison. 

Salerno was one of several officers who responded to a 911 call at a NYCHA development at 3073 Park Avenue in the Bronx. When police arrived at the scene shots were fired. Salerno was wounded and the suspected shooter, Santiago Urena, died, according to a press release from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office.

"This was clearly a very dangerous situation. And we should all be grateful that the courageous and dedicated men and women of the NYPD willingly face danger every day to protect us and our families, so we can go about our lives in safety," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said in a statement. "That really is what makes them truly New York's Finest."
