Howson Silent During Brief Court Appearance

Christopher Howson, of Sleepy Hollow, appeared in Village Court on charges of attempted murder and strangulation.

A handcuffed and silent Christopher Howson faced Judge Andres Valdespino in Sleepy Hollow Village Court this afternoon, only to return to jail moments after.

Howson, 49, of Sleepy Hollow, was arrested Saturday and is being held in County Jail facing charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree strangulation.

Sleepy Hollow Police say he called police from his New Broadway home around 3 a.m. Saturday for a domestic dispute. Emergency responders found his wife, whom authorities have not named, unconscious and apparently having suffered cardiac arrest.

The victim is still at Phelps Memorial Hospital with no change in her condition, reported Police Chief Gregory Camp Monday this morning.

Howson was represented by the County Legal Aid Society. No bail application was made. His felony hearing was waived for another week to January 14, "for all purposes," the lawyer told the judge.

LoHud.com has reported that the couple has two daughters, age 5 and 8, who were allegedly home at the time of the incident. The website also reported that the family's distraught babysitter was in the courtroom.
