Harrison Man Charged with DUI Early New Year's Day

Police found the man sleeping in his car in New Canaan.

A 42-year-old Harrison man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to obey an officer’s signal and failure to obey a stop sign after a motor vehicle stop in New Canaan, CT, early on New Year’s Day.

According to police, an officer on patrol noticed Martin’s vehicle off the side of St. John Place with its lights on and engine running. Police said the operator appeared to be sleeping or unconscious. When the officer approached, the operator shut the engine and lights off. The officer then asked the driver to roll the window down, but the operator refused.

Police said the man—Joseph Martin—appeared to be drunk, as he was muttering obscenities. Martin then allegedly started his car and took off down the road, where police stopped him soon after.
