Harrison EMS Accepts Needed Donations

Chief Joseph Bilotto said donations from the TWIG of Westchester County and York International Agency, LLC, will help pay for necessary equipment.

Two donations will help outfit the Harrison EMS with critical new equipment this year.

TWIG of Westchester and York International Agency, LLC, an international insurance agency located in Harrison, made the donations recently. TWIG of Westchester, which has helped the Harrison EMS with donations for more than a decade, donated $17,000. York International kicked in $1,620.

The donation from TWIG of Westchester will supply the department with four Rad 57 Pulse CO-Oximeters, which are tools used by paramedics in the field to measure the presence of CO. They are used when firefighters are working on a structure fire or at a scene where a homeowner has had a problem with his boiler, according to EMS Chief Joseph Bilotto.

York International's donation will be used for digital thermometers. The equipment is also used in emergency rooms and helps measure a patient’s temperature. The EMS department will also purchase Bloodthorn pathogen safety gloves for the staff to wear at motor vehicle accidents. The gloves are important, Bilotto explained, because latex gloves are only capable of protecting against fluids.

York International's donation comes from an employee bake sale held during the company's 27th anniversary. The company matched all proceeds from the bake sale for the donation.
