Frosting Distraction Leads to Stolen Cash, iPhone

Bedford police are investigating a theft that allegedly occurred at Sweetooth Katonah.

A customer of Sweetooth Katonah apparently distracted an employee of the popular cupcake bakery and made off with $100 cash from the register and the employee's iPhone, Bedford police said.

The alleged theft happened on Jan. 3 at about 2:45 p.m., after a customer came into the shop and ordered a red velvet cupcake. When the "customer" requested additional frosting, the employee obliged, and stepped away from the register for a moment.

The employee returned to the front counter, but the "customer" was gone. The employee noticed that the register drawer was open and cash was missing, police said. The employee's iPhone was also apparently stolen.

The suspect was described as a black man with a stocky build in his mid-30s. He was wearing a blue cap. Police responded to the shop and canvassed the area but did not locate the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.

Interesting. I've worked in Katonah since May and I've never seen a black person in the entire downtown area.. and a mid-thirties stocky black man buying a red velvet cupcake? HMMMM... sounds suspiciously specific .. I'd check out the employee.

Additional frosting? What kind of insane request is that. I can understand if he wanted a freshly filled cannoli.
