Cheese Theft, Carnival Workers Arrested, Giving the Middle Finger Gets Driver Arrested

A employee at the Katonah branch was arrested for allegedly padding his personal bank account with $86,885 over several months.

A 72-year-old intoxicated Pearl River man who was turned away from  punched an Orangetown police officer attempting to assist the man into a cab. The officer's nose was broken and the man was arrested after a struggle that resulted in a hand injury that was treated at a local hospital. The officer was treated at a local hospital and released the same day.

Orangetown police were taken on a chase down 9W by a Nyack man, 31, who was charged with allegedly stealing a car in Nyack. The man also faces charges in Piermont for interfering with the safe flow of traffic in Piermont. The man was finally stopped at after nearly causing other accidents, according to police.

Two carnival workers in town for the annual Orangeburg Fire Department carnival at Dominican College were arrested in separate incidents. One man visiting from Florida allegedly displayed a steak knife he took from his trailer during a fight with relatives, according to Orangetown police. Family members apparently engaged in a struggle, the knife was taken away from the carnival worker and another person was taken to Nyack Hospital with a minor head injury, police said. A carnival worker from North Carolina was charged with driving while intoxicated in Blauvelt after police went to the scene to investigate a complaint of a disorderly person who might have a gun. No gun was discovered, according to police.

Two Ossining residents were contacted to help so-called family members in trouble by wiring money to the supposedly distressed parties through Western Union. One family wired $13,000 to a person posing as their cousin overseas before realizing they had been duped. A woman sent approximately $3,000 to a person posing as her grandson.

A Mahopac family has been accused of forging Oxycodone prescriptions using a Peekskill doctor's stolen prescription pad. The prescriptions requesting large amounts of Oxycodone were presented in Carmel, Mahopac, Putnam Valley and Southeast.

Melissa King, 60, of Irvington, received a six-year prison term for embezzling $42 million from the employee benefit plans she administered on behalf of the Compressed Air and Free Air Foundations, Tunnels, Caissons, Subways, Cofferdams, Sewer Construction Workers Local 147 of New York, New Jersey States and Vicinity AFL-CIO (“Local 147” or “Sandhogs Union”). King used the funds to live a lavish lifestyle including buying expensive jewelry, riding horses and racking up millions of dollars in American Express bills.

A high efficiency HVAC boiler was allegedly stolen from a Scarsdale home under construction.

While Tarrytown police officers were interviewing three men, they noticed another man unrelated to the group stumbling toward them. The man was found to be in possession of PCP and was arrested.

A Tarrytown resident contacted police after losing contact with his landlord for an hour. The tenant explained that the landlord did not come to the door when he attempted to contact him and that the tenant did not see the landlord leave. The tenant described the circumstances as unlike the landlord.

Also in Tarrytown, a caller reported that a driver gave him the middle finger and then followed him. Police found the vehicle and discovered the driver in question had a suspended license.
