Accused Burglar Arraigned on Multiple Felony Charges

Thomas Haywood, who Harrison police arrested on June 21, faces six felony counts stemming from burglaries in Rye Brook and Mamaroneck.

A Port Chester man faces five to 15 years in prison for allegedly breaking into two Westchester County homes.

Thomas Haywood, 48, of 45 Traverse Avenue, Port Chester, was arraigned in Westchester County court Tuesday. He is charged with breaking into and stealing from a Mamaroneck home on Sept. 30, 2008 and a Rye Brook home on Dec. 17, 2010 and Dec. 19, 2010.

Haywood is also wanted by the State of Connecticut in connection with a Greenwich home invasion this June. Guy Austin Wicky McGhee, 46, a man police believe was Haywood's accomplice, has been arrested and charged in Greenwich in connection to that burglary.

After an arrest warrant was issued out of Greenwich, Harrison Police arrested Haywood on June 21. Police said they were monitoring him as a suspect for burglaries in the area. After his arrest, Harrison Police called Haywood a "career criminal", saying they believe he has been committing crimes in Westchester County and Connecticut for more than 30 years.

Tuesday's arraignment includes six felony counts; two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree grand larceny and once count of third-degree criminal mischief.

Haywood is also charged with three counts of possession of burglar tools—a class A misdemeanor—and two counts of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.

Assistant District Attorney Wendy Parra is prosecuting the case.

Haywood has been remanded to Westchester County Jail. His next court appearance is July 27.
