Harrison's Mildred Lemos passed away Sunday morning at the age of 105.
A former school teacher and Harrison's Citizen of the Year in 2007, Lemos made connections with countless locals throughout her years. She spent 20 years teaching fourth grade at Parsons Elementary School before spending 20 more years at Pleasant Ridge Elementary. During those 40 years she was part of the education of two generations of many Harrison families.
Among countless others, she taught Harrison Board of Education Trustee David Singer and Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini.
After retiring in the early '70s, Mildred decided to stay in Harrison and lived most of her remaining years in a downtown home.
"Harrison is a nice place, I decided when I retired I would stay here instead of going upstate," she said . "It was nice up there too, but this was nicer."
She recently at in Mamaroneck.
Mildred was preceeded in death by her husband, parents and nine siblings. A visitation has been scheduled at Harrison Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
