You Don’t Need a Resolution You Need a Revolution!

Get your fitness on track in 2012 by dumping the resolution and starting a revolution.

rev·o·lu·tion noun \ˌre-və-ˈlü-shən\ a: a sudden, radical, or complete change

b: a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something : a change of paradigm

The above is Merriam-Webster Dictionary’s non-political definition of a revolution.  Judging by the success rate of individuals to get fit each year maybe we should rethink making a New Year’s resolution and instead start a New Year’s revolution within ourselves.

Anyone who has ever been truly successful at going from fat to fit did so by making a radical change in their approach to diet and exercise. Sure you may lose a few pounds by cleaning up your diet, eating a little less, adding some cardio or doing some weight training but in the long run this just doesn’t cut it. The changes you make need to be significant otherwise you quickly find your progress stalling out. It is at this time you are either going to throw in the towel or through sheer determination continue what you’re doing but fail to progress any further.

Now some of you are going to misconstrued “radical change” as meaning you need to perform an excessive amount of exercise and eat nothing but twigs and berries.  No true. What you need is a strategic and targeted approach that considers not only your objectives but also your physical abilities, needs, limitations, mental focus, and time constraints. In essence, you need a departure from the way everyone else is dieting and exercising.

  • If everyone else is doing an hour on the treadmill or elliptical each day...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is doing light weight training...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is doing heavy weight training...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is performing their repetitions quickly...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is doing functional training...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is doing Cross Fit...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is hoping on board with the latest fitness trend (can’t wait to see what 2012 brings!)...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is exercising for an hour and a half, 5-7 days a week...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is starving themselves...you shouldn’t.
  • If everyone else is eliminating carbs from their diet...you shouldn’t.

I could go on and on but I think you get the point. What everyone else does is wrong. I can say this because each day at PURE PHYSIQUE we see clients who have done the above for years only to see little to no gain. Now when they work out they train harder, heavier and perform their exercises slower, spend less time in the gym, exercise fewer days per week, they eat meals throughout the day, and they don’t eliminate carbs or fat .

And somehow despite doing things differently than everyone else they see results that far exceed those of everyone else or at the very least match their results with less time investment.

So do you want to make a resolution that you may or may not stick to or start revolution that will forever change the way you look and feel?
