Burning Calories During Your Daily Routine

Burn calories while watching TV, driving, or grocery shopping!

Wouldn’t it be awesome to be able to burn calories while watching TV, shopping or driving? Well, you can! Here are some ways you can burn calories without breaking your usual routine.

Turn these daily activities into a workout!

Watching TV: Instead of slouching on the sofa, get up and walk in place. Make large circular movements with your arms—raising your arms above your head increases your heart rate! For an extra challenge, add high-knee lifts, bringing your knees to your chest!

Driving: Work your abs from behind the wheel! Inhale fully, then tighten your abs while releasing the air slowly. Repeat.

Typing or writing: Do you remember that annoying kid sitting behind you during a test, clicking his pen repeatedly? Believe it or not, he was burning calories!

In the kitchen: Performing your daily chores in high heels will shape your calf muscles. But be extra careful, and don’t go too high! You should always have non-slip grip pads to help protect you.

Grocery shopping: Park in the spot farthest away from the store and speed walk. On your way back, do bicep curls with your grocery bags, evenly distributing them on each arm.

Going to the Bathroom: Take the long way, or use the one upstairs.

In any building: Ditch the elevator and take the stairs. Walk up the escalator instead of being carried up. (If you have arthritis in your knees like me, this is not a good one for us.)

Wherever you are or whatever you’re doing, there are always ways to burn calories! This means we can have that chocolate-chip cookie or the brownie we were feeling guilty about! I mean, let’s face it—we workout so we can eat what we want.
