I know i'm probably one of the weaker sopranos in a chorus of VERY accomplished musicians, but I am greatly enjoying the rehearsals for the Taconic Opera's upcoming performance of Mefistofele in Yorktown Heights and at Purchase.
The music is incredibly dramatic, especially the scene at the Witches' Sabbath. I'm told we're all going to be wearing tattered red costumes and i'm sure the lighting will be eerie.
I can't wait.

This is an interesting opera. In Faust the hero is damned at the end, but in Mefistofele, first of all, the Devil is the hero, and second of all, Faust gets saved. He goes up to heaven and there's a chorus of little cherubim (aged 7 to 10) singing him up to salvation. I don't know how that's going to be staged yet, but I can't wait!
