Going Green: Harrison Awarded For Recycling

Harrison residents recycled 38 percent of allowable materials in 2011, good for third best in Westchester County.

The Town of Harrison has earned an award from Westchester County for its efforts to recycle, Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont announced Thursday night.

Last week, the town accepted proclamations from Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino and Assemblymen Robert Castelli for finishing third in the county by percentage of eligible materials recycled. Harrison residents recycled 38 percent of eligible materials in 2011.

Harrison Sanitation Foreman Angelo Delborgo accepted the proclamations on behalf of his department Thursday evening.

"Recycling is a big thing in Westchester County," Delborgo said. "It's a giant team effort, it really is."

Delborgo thanked the residents of Harrison for following the sanitation department's recycling rules and being environmentally conscious.

"I think this belongs to all the residents in the town and all of you on the board," he said Thursday night, after Belmont handed him the proclamations.
