Harrison High School Foreign Language Students Excel on National Exams

Harrison High School students continue to excel in languages other than English by performing exceptionally well on National French and Latin exams. Forty-five HHS students sat for the Grand Concours National French Exam in early March which included nearly 100,000 participants nationwide. In French Level II, Harrison had two national bronze medalists, Mihoko Sakanaka, 7th place regionally, and Carolina France, whose scored earned her an 8th place regional nod. In French Level III, both Ava Ganik and Gamou Ngom earned 5th place recognition and received bronze medals.

On the Level IV exam, Aurelie Gillain scored a near perfect exam and a 1st place gold medal honor.  Aurelie is the only first place winner in Westchester County, besting students from both public and private high schools in the area.  As a result of her gold medal, Aurelie had been invited by the French Embassy to participate in high level study in France this summer.

In the study of Latin, Harrison continues to excel as three students – Carol Ann Albanese, Brett Saviano, and Olivia Barbulescu - earned perfect scores on their Latin I exams.

Other students received ribbon and certificates in the order of their accomplishments on their Latin I exams.  They are:  Elizabeth Marino, Dylan Manley, Katherine Ensign, Oriana Flecha, Marielle Sheck, Celia Spana, Jaylene Vasquez, Jake Kirshner, Sarah Hodes and Rene Marin.

In Level II Latin, Paige Brabant received Magna Cum Laude distinction and in Level III, Jenna Lefkowitz was awarded Gold Summa Cum Laude recognition and Alessia Solimeo and Julia McManus received Cum Laude achievements.
