Summer Piano at Purchase College Features Pete Malinverni

Jazz pianist and composer Pete Malinverni will headline a free performance at SUNY Purchase on July 6.

Jazz pianist and composer Pete Malinverni will headline the Purchase College Summer Piano concert on July 6 at 7 p.m. with his interpretations of the music of America’s great composer Duke Ellington.

The concert features special guest singer Jody Sandhaus and takes place in the Music Conservatory Recital Hall on the Purchase College campus. Admission is free. For information call 914-251-6700.

 Pete Malinverni is a popular recording artist and member of the Jazz Studies faculty of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music. The most recent of his twelve recordings as a leader, “A Beautiful thing!” has been released to excellent notices worldwide and continues to receive heavy airplay.

Since he came to New York in 1981, Malinverni has made a mark for himself in live and recorded performances at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, the Village Vanguard and the Blue Note, and tours of North and South America, Europe and Japan earning him entry into the “Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz.” He has twice appeared on NPR’s “Piano Jazz” with Marion McPartland, once in performance with Elvis Costello.

Malinverni served as Minister of Music at the Devoe Street Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY from 1992-2010 and is pianist /conductor of the Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale., NY.  In those capacities he has explored the critical intersection between art and spirituality.  At Purchase College he founded the Soul Voices, a diverse student choir which explores the music of the African-American tradition.
