Purchase College Receives National Science Foundation Scholarship Grant

Five-year Science Technology Engineering and Math Scholarship granted to Purchase College.

SUNY Purchase President Thomas J. Schwarz announced that the National Science Foundation has awarded a nearly $600,000 five-year Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Scholarship grant to Purchase College.

It is a first for the college and will provide annual scholarships to freshmen, transfer, and continuing students over its five-year period.  The program will support academically talented and financially needy biochemistry, biology, and chemistry students. It will also fund four tutors each year for five years.

These scholarships will enable students to complete a bachelor’s degree in these targeted disciplines and enter the work force or go on to post-graduate studies.  Scholarships will be awarded with an extra emphasis on strengthening the Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry programs.

“This grant marks a new level of collaboration between the admissions, science and the career development faculty and staff at Purchase College and our six community college partners. Their dedication to establishing guidelines  for attracting students and guiding them through the program and helping them define academic and career goals will help many deserving students to enter and continue in the sciences,” said President Schwarz. “This has been an enormous team effort that will benefit many students and we are proud of our faculty and administrators who will ensure its success.”
