The Orbits Jazz Quartet Concert

The Orbits Jazz Quartet concert­—free and open to the public­—will feature works by Wayne Shorter, Sammy Fain, Irving Kahal, Ray Henderson and Mort Dixon.

Quartet members Bren Cavallo (piano), Tom Ferguson (soprano sax) , John Murchison (bass) and Jake St. John (drums) will present Bye Bye Blackbird, I ’ll Be Seeing You , Marie Antoinette, Wild Flower, Dear Sir, Yes and No, and Fee - Fi - Fo - Fum.

Pianist Bren Cavallo has studied with Matt Gordy, Mike Peipman, Ben Cook, Ross Adams and Peter Tomlinson. In addition to playing jazz in and around New York City, Bren is a PhD student in mathematics at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Bassist John Murchison currently holds the bass chair for the off-Broadway musical Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. He plays regularly with the Puerto Rican folk dance company Danza Fiesta. 

After hearing Cannonball Adderley’s rendition of Love For Sale,saxophonist Tom Ferguson fell in love with improvised music. He has studied with Ken Sawyer and Ed Xiques. Tom has been part of numerous ensembles and a saxophonist for the Holland America Cruise Line.

Drummer Jake St. John has recorded and toured nationally and internationally with groups ranging in style from rock to R&B, hip-hop, reggae and jazz. He currently performs with Brooklyn indie dance outfit French Horn Rebellion and his upcoming personal electro rock project Una Lux.
