Cebebrated Novelists Read From Their Works September 27 at Manhattanville College

Fall
Writers’ Weekend, a long-standing Manhattanville College tradition, will
feature public readings on Friday evening, September 27 by Diane Glancy, among the most celebrated Native American authors in
the country, and Dina Nayeri, an
Iranian now living in Oklahoma and author of a highly acclaimed debut novel, A Teaspoon of Earth and Sea.   The readings are free of charge and start at
7 p.m. in Reid Hall.

Ms. Clancy received her MFA from the Iowa
Writers’ Workshop in 1988 and published numerous books including the novels Pushing the Bear: After the Trail of Tears and
The Reason for Crows: A Novel of Kateri
Tetakwitha.  As a review by the
Historical Novel Society said of Pushing
the Bear:  “As
usual, Glancy’s research is impeccable, and her deep connection to her own
Cherokee heritage finds beautiful expression in this work. “

Ms. Nayeri’s debut novel, A Teaspoon of Earth and Sea was released
in 2013 and is already translated into 13 foreign languages, and selected as a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers
book.  She holds an MBA and Master of
Education, both from Harvard, and a BA from Princeton.  The Daily Mail of London says: “There’s
a kaleidoscopic quality to Dina Nayeri’s prose, evoking the beat of Eastern
storytelling, while its cadences remain resolutely American. Even as the
country embraces ever harsher laws, there are local details that beguile -
weekly bazaars and rice fields, samovars of tea and freshly squeezed
