Artist Barnaby Furnas To Give Talk As Part of Purchase College School of Art+Design Lecture Series

Barnaby Furnas, an artist whose paintings are monumental in both scale and content, will give a talk Wednesday, Nov. 13 as part of the Visiting Artist Lecture Series being conducted this fall by Purchase College, SUNY’s School of Art+Design.  The lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the college’s Visual Arts Building, Room 1016.

Filled with visceral red paint, Furnas’s paintings combine the drips, splashes and pours of historical abstraction with cinematic violence and cartooning to depict reworked biblical narratives. By embracing certain painterly conventions in mixing his own paint, Furnas approaches painting as a medium of tradition that must be expanded to address the
construction and viewing of contemporary images.
