Water Main Damage Leaves Businesses, Residents, with Low or No Water Pressure

Westchester Water Works crews in the Manhattanville Road area are trying to pinpoint the problem.

Residents and businesses between Manhattanville Road and Westchester Avenue have little or no water pressure due to a damaged water main.

Town and Westchester Joint Water Works officials have determined the source of the problem is in a section of pipe in the vicinity of  Manhattanville Road, where it has affected Mastercard headquarters among other corporations.

It is still unknown how far the water pressure problem extends. Crews must first dig down to pinpoint the leak and assess the damage.

At that point they expect to develop a timeframe for repair.

"Once they have it located, it depends how bad it is," said Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Joan Walsh, who is a trustee with the Westchester Joint Water Works. "If  it's a 24-inch pipe that's one thing, if it's a 12-inch pipe it's something else."

The town was notified of the problem at 9 a.m.; however, low water pressure was noted on Gannett Drive a couple of hours earlier, according to The Journal News.

Workers were seen walking into the woods near the entrance ramp to interstate 684 from Manhattanville Road at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The Journal News building had only enough water pressure to air-condition the top two floors and portable toilets were being brought in, according to a staffer.
