Wake Up with Patch: Public Schools Rally and a Very Generous Whiz Kid
A look at five things to know on Thursday, March 31, 2011.
1. Rally Held Tonight for Harrison Public Schools
In light of increasing budget restraints at the state level, the Harrison school community will hold a rally tonight entitled "".
The event will be held from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m. at Feeley Field at LMK Middle School. If it's raining, the event will be held in the LMK auditorium.

Yesterday Harrison Patch ran an article about the Harrison Town Board's recent approval of a farmers market on Lake Street in West Harrison. An official contract between the market operator, Bensidoun USA, and the town is still in the works, but organizers say beginning in mid-May or early June.

Maria Piccirillo, a student at Parsons Elementary School, is this week's Harrison Patch Whiz Kid. She donated the entire contents of her piggy bank, which amounted to $70, to charity after the earthquake in Haiti last year. She also worked with her classmates to raise enough money to buy ten goats for those in need through the Heifer International non-profit.

The National Weather Service expects today to be rainy. The high temperature will be around 47 degrees. There's also a possibility of some snow overnight, but accumulations aren't likely.
