Wake Up with Patch: Cop Suit Dismissed, Tax Refund Loan Scams and Help for Parents of Autistic Children

A look at some important information you need to know on Feb. 7, 2011.

1. County Urges Caution Against Tax Refund Loans

In a statement, John Gaccione, director of the Westchester County Department of Consumer Protection, has urged residents to be wary of “Refund Anticipation Loans” (RALs) and “Refund Anticipation Checks” (RACs).  

Banks will loan money against tax refunds and charge high rates for the service.

Gaccione said that "the costs can be high and the benefits simply aren't worth it."

2. Suit Against Harrison Police dismissed

On Friday, Harrison Patch ran an article about the beginning of a court trial , a former Harrison PBA president who was fired from the Harrison Police Department in 2009.

Saenz was suing the department for allegedly holding her down and urging her to sign an order of protection against Tancredi. The case was dismissed late last week, and we will have full coverage later in the day.

3. Sign Up for Autism Parent Behavior Management Training

Westchester Jewish Community Services is holding "Parent Behavior Management" training sessions starting this week.

The training was developed at the Yale Child Study Center as is aimed at helping parented implement behavior strategies that decrease oppositional and anti-social behaviors in children on the autism spectrum.
