Wake Up with Patch: BOE Race Heats Up, Events This Weekend

A look at five things to know this weekend.

1. Candidates Acknowledge Differences in BOE Candidate Viewpoints

With diverse viewpoints coming from the Harrison Board of Education candidates, as well as members of the community, the election coming up on Tuesday, May 17 will likely draw many voters. To read about the candidates' differing points of view, check out .

2. St. Anthony's 4th Annual Blue Mass

(85 Harrison Street, West Harrison) will hold its on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The event is a recognition of police officers, firemen, EMS workers and civil servants and is free and open to the public.

3. 5K Run/Walk at SUNY Purchase

The Mental Health Association of Westchester is holding a 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Kids' Race on Sunday at Purchase College.

The Kids' Race begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K begins at 9:45 a.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Mental Health Association of Westchester and a recognition of May as Mental Health Month.

3. Harrison Girl Scouts Host Hair Donation Event for Cancer Patients

The Harrison Girl Scouts will be hosting an event at 241 Main St, New Rochelle. on Sunday from 12 - 2 p.m. They're asking people to donate their hair to be made into wigs for people who are living with cancer.

4. Purchase College Graduation MFA Dance Concert

Members of the 2011 MFA Dance Class at Purchase College will perform in the Dance Theatre Lab on Friday and Saturday. Both shows are at 8 p.m. Tickets are $3/students and $5/public.
