UJA-Federation of New York’s Westchester Region recently honored Karen and Edward Friedman of Scarsdale and Ellen and Michael Brown of Purchase at the Westchester Celebration 2013 event, also paying special tribute to Rabbi Lester Bronstein of Bet Am Shalom Synagogue in White Plains.

Over 500 guests came together as a community at the Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase to pay tribute to the honorees for their enduring leadership in the Westchester Jewish community and to support UJA-Federation and its network of nearly 100 local and global agencies. The event raised nearly $350,000.

The event’s theme focused on the global nature of UJA-Federation’s work, which spans from New York to Israel and 70 other countries around the world, and the opportunity to see that work in action through UJA-Federation missions, both domestic and abroad.

Ellen and Michael Brown of Purchase serve as chairs of the Westchester King David Society, which recognizes the generosity of area residents who contribute a minimum of $25,000 to UJA-Federation’s annual campaign. A member of UJA-Federation’s board of directors, Ellen is past chair of Westchester Women’s Philanthropy. She currently sits on UJA-Federation’s Commission on Jewish Identity and Renewal’s Experiments in Teen Engagement Task Force and is a key member of Neshamot — Westchester Women’s Venture Philanthropy of UJA-Federation.

Michael is president of MSB Holdings, LLC, which invests and develops commercial real estate. Involved in several charities in addition to UJA-Federation, he also sits on the board of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Kristin and Gary Friedman of Scarsdale, Karen and Rob Sobel of Purchase, and Debra and David Weiner of White Plains served as chairs of the event.
