Question of the Day: Is Westchester's High Felony Conviction Rate a Good Thing?

Today's question asks the community whether or not they believe that the county district attorney's office is prosecuting people fairly.

Yesterday Patch featured regarding the Westchester County District Attorney's felony conviction rates. According to a new report released by DA Janet DiFiore's office, the rate in Westchester is 98 percent while the statewide rate is 92 percent.

Two people commented on the article and said that they believe that this high rate is attributable to wrongful convictions and plea bargains. The DA's office has hailed the rate as an accomplishment, noting that there was an increase from 2009 in the number of possible gang members convicted and a decrease in the number of homocide cases.

What do you think? Is the DA's office being too aggressive in order to increase its felony conviction rates, or are people deserving of time behind bars being served justice?
