Priority of the Master Plan

There has been a lot of chatter in recent years about the need for Harrison to create a Master Plan outlining the overall direction of the town, how big a deal is this to you?

Harrison has been without an updated Master Plan for years.

What is the Master Plan? It's a wide-reaching document outlining the future plans for the community. It covers zoning, defines business districts and sets an overall guideline for future development.

If done correctly, it would certainly be of value. But over the years a finalized master plan has proven to be more difficult to complete than many had envisioned.

Harrison's previous Mayor/Supervisor Joan Walsh hoped to finish one during her tenure, but was never able to create a plan that gained traction. New Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont said last week that he hopes to make progress on a new plan in the near future.

But creating an overall Master Plan for a town/village Harrison's size takes a sizeable amount of time and resources.
