Moms Talk: Discussing Bin Laden's Death With Your Children

Discussing complicated issues with kids, such as Osama bin Laden's death, can open up a dialogue about patriotism, murder and morals.

When news broke on Sunday that al-Qaeda leader in Pakistan by American troops, crowds gathered around the U.S.  in celebration. But when it comes to addressing this news at home, how do you go about doing it?

Helping a young child to understand why some people might be celebrating that someone was killed can be difficult. Should a parent keep things simple, or is it a worthy venture to delve into the political details of why bin Laden's death may have been justified?

For teenagers, who likely have their own opinions about bin Laden's death, should parents try to open up a dialogue on complicated issues like morality, revenge and patriotism? How do you tell your teen that it's okay to disagree with other people's opinions?
