Harrison's Al Dente Italian Trattoria to Host 'Dining Beneath The Stars'

Good food, live music and summer fun Al Fresco are planned for July 30 and August 6.

Anthony Delfino, chef and proprietor of in Harrison will be sponsoring two 'Dining Beneath The Stars' events on July 30th and August 6th.

If you recall last year, the events are lively evenings geared to the whole family and filled with good food, live music and dancing. It's a full-fledged block party on Halstead & Thatcher Avenues. Everyone is invited free of charge from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

While visitors can choose to dine in at Al Dente, there will be reasonably priced food stations and seating set up outside as well, including plenty of traditonal Italian specialties and big fried zeppoles with powdered sugar.

To those of you who haven't visited Al Dente lately, the menu combines traditional old favorites with the contemporary, as is Chef Delfino's style.

Signature pastas here include: Tubetini Al Dente, with broccoli rabe, cannellini beans and topped with grilled chicken and extra virgin olive oil; Cavatelli Rustica, with sweet sausage, fresh basil sauce topped with ricotta cheese; and Linguini alla Pescatore, with mixed seafood, garlic and extra virgin olive oil; and pillows of house-made Gnocchi dumplings with tomato basil sauce.

Generously served main courses include: Chicken Saltimbocca, boneless chicken layered with prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, spinach, sage and accented with white wine; Veal alla Kara, lightly crusted pan-seared veal served over mixed greens with fresh mozzarella and fresh diced tomatoes; Garlic Shrimp, large shrimp in a rich garlic sauce with risotto. Meat lovers will enjoy the Black Angus Shell Steak charbroiled and topped with toasted onions.

At lunch the house also offers such casual fare as: Cobb Salad, with mixed greens, grilled chicken, bacon and tomatoes topped with bleu cheese; a big juicy Halstead Burger; Flat Iron Steak, sliced charbroiled steak topped with caramelized onions.

Enjoy talking to the chef? Delfino likes meeting his patrons, too. You can be sure he will be making the rounds during your visit.

Al Dente Italian Trattoria is open Tuesday thru Sunday. Check out the restaurant's website here.
