Harrison Braces for Rain, Snow, Wind

A nor'easter is bearing down on the Sound Shore area just a little over a week after a hurricane downed trees and utility poles.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday through 4 a.m. Thursday. That means there could be winds 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph.

There is also a coastal flood warning in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday for Long Island Sound.

The forecast for Wednesday calls for rain and snow, mainly after noon, with a high near 42. Little or no snow accumulation is expected. Winds will be from the north 20 to 26 mph with gusts as high as 55 mph.

For Wednesday night there is a 90 percent chance of rain and sleet before 5 a.m.. The low is expected to be around 33 degrees. Less than half an inch of new snow and sleet accumulation.

Thursday's forecast calls for rain and snow before 8 a.m., then a chance of rain. The high will be near 45, with a north wind from 17 to 21 mph. Gusts could be as high as 38 mph.

The clouds will gradually clear Thursday night, with the temperature dipping to around 35 degrees. The winds will continue from the northwest at 18 mph, gusting to as high as 29 mph.

The area is forecast to get a respite from wet weather on Friday when it is expected to be sunny with a high near 55.
