Food Pantry Theft Trial Pushed to March

The case against Adam Straface, one of six former Harrison employees accused of stealing from the local food pantry, will be heard by a judge in March.

Barring an unforeseen plea agreement during the next few weeks, Adam Straface will have his day in court—it just won't happen in January as originally scheduled.

Straface faces a single petit larceny charge for his alleged role in a from the Harrison Food Pantry last winter. He was one of six former town employees originally accused of stealing from the pantry and is the only one who hasn't accepted a plea offer.

Joseph Arcara, Jack Arcara, William D’Imperio, Sherry Toplyn and Florence D’Imperio each to a single count of petit larceny within months of the arrests. Each had faced numerous counts of petit larceny and Joseph Arcara and Florence D’Imperio had faced .

Straface was only charged with a single count of petit larceny and has refused to plead guilty. His case was originally scheduled to go to trial this week, but has been pushed to March 7. It will be a non-jury trail, meaning the case will go before only a judge.

The food pantry story went viral in February 2011 after word spread that the former town employees were accused of stealing from the pantry, which stores food and clothing that is distributed to about 100 local families in need.
