Flood Waters on the Rise Again

For the second time in eleven days homes and streets are flooded in Harrison.

Don't let the sun fool you Thursday afternoon, flooding is still a problem in many areas of Harrison.

A powerful rain storm swept through the area early this week, dumping as much as three inches of rain on the area Wednesday night. This after heavy rains associated with Hurricane Irene saturated the region only 11 days ago.

Union Avenue is closed at the Nelson Avenue intersection because of substantial flooding in the area. Feeley Field between and is halfway submerged in water. Several streets in the Trail neighborhoods off of Union Avenue are also closed because of flood-water.

Beaver Swamp Brook has leaked water onto Oakland Avenue, leaving one lane of traffic underwater. Park Avenue is also completely submerged in water, but vehicles are still passing through the middle of the street one lane at a time.

Drivers are reminded to not attempt to pass through a road that is covered in water, especially if you can't tell how deep the water is.

Homes in several of these areas are suffering from flooding for the second time in less than two weeks. Neighbors had a to discuss the flood problem in Harrison.

The Town Board has promised to look into what can be done to combat flooding in the future.

A flood warning reamins in affect for all of Westchester County until 4:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. There is a 40 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms Thursday afternoon.
