Miss Anything? This Week in Review

A house fire, charity event and another look at coyote trapping highlighted the week of July 12 in Harrison news.

This week's Harrison news kicked off with a fire on Crystal Street Monday afternoon that send a firefighter to the hospital. The fire was put down in about 35 minutes, but a collapsed ceiling injured one firefighter and several other responders were treated for heat related injuries.

The injured firefighter was released from the hospital on Monday night, and the fire was contained to two rooms in the home.

Down the street from the house fire, Harrison's first ever dog park opened on Monday. Although a ceremonial grand opening for the park was postponed until later this summer, the town says it is currently selling passes to the park and that it is open.

On Wednesday we took a look at an alternative option to trapping coyotes in the area. After two coyote attacks in Rye, authorities in that town have been authorized to shoot coyotes if they are posing a threat. Some experts are saying that trapping and killing coyotes could be ineffective.

Hundreds of people braved passing thunderstorms and excessive heat to attend this week's farmer's market in Purchase. The market featured several new additions this week and, despite the weather, was once again a success.

Two big events kicked off the weekend on Friday. The West Harrison summer camp hosted its annual casino day in the afternoon. Hundreds of people also attended a car show in West Harrison Friday evening.

In sports news we spoke with some residents about the charity work of late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner who passed away this week. We also took a look at the college choice of a well-known high school senior and caught up with a Harrison alum playing baseball at the college level.
