Miss Anything? This Week in Review
A look at Harrison news during the week of July 5.
It was a hot one this week in Harrison.
Temperatures topped 100 degrees in Harrison on Tuesday, and reached the high 90s on Wednesday, leaving local pools as a safe haven for those looking for an escape from the merciless weather.
The weather also led to several problems during the week. Harrison issued a water alert early in the week, a short-term problem resulting from increased water consumption in light of the heat. Later in the week, Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Joan Walsh asked resident to take some voluntary precautions to save water.

Electricity was also a problem this week, as more than 300 people in West Harrison lost electricity during the heart of the heat wave, leaving them sweating out the temperatures without air-conditioning.
But, Harrison can look at its neighbors to the west and be thankful that things weren't as bad. On Wednesday afternoon an entire city block went up in flames in White Plains, sending more than 30 people to the hospital for with heat-related injuries and destroying seven businesses.

But, despite the high temperatures, some people still found time for outdoor enjoyment as a concert was performed in West Harrison on Wednesday night. The concert was part of a summer entertainment series that will continue throughout the summer.
There was also more wildlife news in the area, as a bear was sighted in Purchase this week. The bear has been sighted several times over the past week, and has looked peaceful, according to reports. Also, this week's Harrison poll is asking readers if they will change their outdoor plans because of the recent coyote attacks in Rye.
In government news, there was a dropout in this fall's Congressional race, as Paul Wasserman announced that he will be dropping out of the race.
