Miss Anything? This Week in Review

A look back at Harrison news for the week of April 11.

Tax day, a huge debate about public transportation costs and a huge step in negotiations between labor unions and the town board highlighted this week's Harrison news.

Earlier this year the Harrison Town Board chose this Friday as the deadline to complete negotiations with labor unions that would give-back $1 million in salary deferments or reductions. Although things didn't look promising earlier in the week, two of the unions were able to come to terms with the town by the original deadline. Voting from the PBA (police) union will take place this weekend and we will know where they stand on Monday.

On Tuesday, Westchester County released numbers indicating that there was enough damage from this March's powerful wind storm to qualify for federal aid. At that point, the town and county were waiting for a disaster declaration from President Obama that would free towns in the area to seek financial assistance to pay for storm cleanup. The president made the declaration later in the week, freeing the town to apply.

While the Harrison Board of Education continues to work with its proposed 2010-11 budget, we heard about a project this summer that will improve science labs in the high school. That project will be completed by the fall at no additional cost the the tax payer.
