Miss Anything? This Week in Review

A look back at this week in Harrison news.

This week started with many of us wondering when the bad weather would come to an end. By the end of the week we had our answer. In between, we saw another exciting week of Harrison news.

First, to the bad stuff. Heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday led to traffic delays and flooding throughout most of the area. Several streets in Harrison closed temporarily while water rose above street level in low-lying areas near Union Avenue. Several people reported inches of rain in their basements that would take several days to clear.

Speaking of flooding, on Tuesday we discussed the history of the controversial "Project Home Run" that has led to reported flooding in some homes for years. The town has agreed to invest nearly 50,000 to further research the project that has, at times, pitted some residents against the town board.

Believe it or not, there was other news besides the storm earlier this week. Harrison Patch reporter Kathy Frankel took a look at some ways to entertain guests coming into the region this spring, as well as a few local ways to stay busy during the school district's spring break.

Most varsity sports where either taking a break or outside of the area this week, but it was business as usual for Harrison Patch's athlete of the week Charlie Credendino. The freshman was recognized for his hard work preparing for next year's football and basketball seasons.

Later in the week, we took a look at some of the new laws that are either being considered or have been passed by the Harrison Town Board.

A new zoning law could improve some newer construction projects in Harrison, as the board worked to redefine an already existing law. Meanwhile, the board continues to work to define a new position within the police department. The new liaison between the town board and police is expected to be approved by Westchester County in the next few weeks.

A look into the future also gave us a better understanding of what a hotel tax could bring to Harrison. Although it could bring in much needed revenue, some officials worry that more taxes could scare away customers.

We saw that the school district is confident after a critical look at one of its departments last month, and that some difficult decisions still lay ahead as the school board works to balance its budget.

We look forward to bringing you updates on that budget, as well as everything else Harrison as we look toward next week.
