Commercial Shoot Closes Danner Avenue

Danner Avenue was closed Thursday afternoon as a video crew shot a commercial in two homes on the street.

A camera crew, folding chairs and a refreshment tent were all on Danner Avenue Thursday afternoon—all that was missing was the Hollywood sign. Well, maybe we are getting ahead of ourselves.

But a commercial shoot was taking place on Danner Avenue, closing the road to traffic until late into the evening. The commercial was shot by a Mars brand candy company in preparation for Halloween. The company asked that the brand not be named specifically in an effort to avoid revealing an upcoming ad campaign.

Two separate commercials were filmed in two houses on the street. Six large white vans lined the roads and workers could be seen setting up wire throughout the properties. At least two dozen people were working at the scene.

Lilian Lopez, who was looking at film under a tent, said that the company picked Harrison because it fit a look they were going for with their commercial.

"We loved: A—the town, and B—the houses," she said. "It's such a great little town, especially driving up from the city."

Lopez said she expects at least one of the commercials shot in Harrison to make it on television later this fall. She also hopes it will be used annually.

"It's a holiday commercial so hopefully it's something that will run year-after-year," she said. "Regular commercials have a pretty short shelf life."

The one-day shoot was finished by Thursday evening and Danner Avenue was openned again. Traffic had been diverted to other side streets by the Harrison Police.

If selected to air by the candy company, Lopez said the commercial will be ready to run by this October—just in time for Halloween.
