Americans Kill bin Laden in Pakistan

President Barack Obama confirmed late Sunday that a small team of Americans carried out the mission that killed the al Qaida leader.

Osama bin Laden, the accused mastermind behind the terrorist attacks against the United States on Sept. 11, 2011, was killed by a small team of Americans during a firefight in Pakistan, President Barack Obama confirmed Sunday.

The United States has custody of bin Laden's body, Obama confirmed during a nationally televised statement. No U.S. troops were killed during the mission to kill bin Laden, which the president said he authorized this week.

"The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our effort to defeat al Qaida," Obama said in the statement.
