AAA Estimates More Travelers Today, Are You One of Them?

More than 42 million Americans will travel for Thanksgiving, according to AAA projections.

About 42.5 million people will travel 50 miles or more to see friends and family this Thanksgiving, according to projections by AAA, four percent more than last year.

The increase is the first among the major holidays this year, AAA says. The estimates were put together in a recent article based on estimates from IHS Global Insight, a Boston-based economic research and consulting firm.

If the estimates hold true, it could spell trouble for Westchester travelers this afternoon, especially those who are driving to their Thanksgiving locations. Wednesday is typically the busiest travel day of the Thanksgiving weekend, but traffic was already backed up on west-bound Interstate 287 throughout the evening rush hour on Tuesday.
