5 Things to Know: Harrison Daily Guide Dec. 1

Kids music time at the library, a blood drive, a gift donation drive and a symphony performance at Purchase will all take place Wednesday.

1. Blood Drive at County Center

Westchester County and the New York Blood Center are sponsoring the Marylou Seaman County Employees Blood Drive at the Westchester County Center in White Plains Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

is open to the public, with anyone ages 16 - 76 and weighing at least 110 lbs. eligible to donate blood.

2. Support Connection Holds First-Wednesday Breast Cancer Support Call

Support Connection, a Yorktown Heights-based non-profit that works with , invites those who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer or are currently in treatment to participate in a national teleconference support group call every first Wednesday of the month.

The call is led by two trained facilitators who are breast cancer survivors at 8 p.m. EST Wednesday.

Participants must register in advance to receive the call code, and you can do so by calling (914) 962-6402 or (800) 532-4290.

3. Toddler Music Time at Harrison Library

The will host a music program for children Wednesday morning from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. The program will feature music by the Bossy Frog Band. Kids of all ages are welcome to attend.

4. Donate to the Harrison Association of Teachers' Holiday Gift Drive

The Harrison Association of Teachers is holding a holiday gift drive. A drop-off bin will be located in the lobby of the .

Donations of new hats and mittens will be donated to Children's Hope Chest.

Gift cards for teenagers will be donated to local teen charities and new or gently used shoes, boots and sneakers will also be donated throughout the county.

5. Purchase Symphonic Winds Performs Gershwin, Strauss, Persichetti Tonight

The Performing Arts Center at will host a performance by the Purchase Symphonic Winds at 7p.m. Wednesday. They will perform selected works by composers George Gershwin, Vincent Persichetti, Paul Hindemith and Richard Strauss. 

Conductor Graham Ashton is Chair of Brass at Purchase College. He has recorded commercial albums with Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Barbara Streisand and Van Morrison.
