Going One Step Deeper With Yoga

Deepen the practice of yoga with mindful awareness and meditation.

People come to yoga class for various reasons. Some come to get in shape, stretch out those muscles, tone the body; mostly for the physical rewards. Yoga has done wonders for many people I personally know.

But yoga goes deeper than just the physical healing. Many who practice for a while understand this. If we are in pain, it is hard to concentrate on anything. It is for this reason, concentration and meditation, the asanas or postures, were originally developed. Once we are comfortable in our bodies, we are able to sit and be still within ourselves, and meditate.

Yoga gives us the time to come back to ourselves, to go within and truly connect with who we are, our true nature. We learn the solution to our problems is not "out there", but within us. As our focus turns inward, we become more aware of our breath and what we are feeling inside the body and mind. Emotions may surface that we were unaware of and can be released.

As our bodies come into "ease", so does the mind. We come into a more balanced and relaxed state of mind. We move into the present moment with mindful awareness and therefore, into a more peaceful state.

It takes practice and yoga is a practice. In this process of moving toward balance, physical, mental and emotional, we come into our true nature, which is wholeness. When we are whole, there is no separation, only connection to all that is... and when we can attain that, we are at peace.
