Learn How to Prepare "Crèpe Ma Pomme" (Apple Pancake) at La Panetière This Friday

"Crèpe Ma Pomme,"a traditional Mardi Gras dessert, is the focus of the next demonstration of French cooking at Jacques Loupiac's La Panetière in Rye. The lesson will take place on Friday, February 21, 2014, beginning at 11:30 a.m. This is the latest demonstration in an ongoing cooking series.

Attendees learn, step by step, how to prepare “Crèpe Ma Pomme" (translaton: apple pancake) and take the recipe home.

The demonstration is followed by a three-course luncheon having Crèpe Ma Pomme as the final course. The cost to register for this event is $40 per person plus beverages, tax and gratuities. The regular luncheon menu will also be available to customers who are not participants in the demonstration. The regular menu includes a large selection of seafood dishes, veal, lamb, venison, beef and chicken.

Mardi Gras dates back to the seventeenth-century Europe and was first celebrated in New Orleans more than three centuries ago. It will be observed this year in New Orleans  on Tuesday March 4 with festivities that include a parade, costumes, food, entertainment and street celebration.

Desserts are a specialty at La Panetière. Owner Jacques Loupiac comes from a long line of bakers who made a living selling pastries in the south of France.

The restaurant, opened in 1986, is celebrating its twenty-ninth anniversary this year.
