Should I work out while on vacation?
The answer depends on how long you vacation. In my professional experience, seven to 14 days away from your workouts generally won't result in any deconditioning. If you've been exercising consistently for 6 months or longer, the rest will actually help you to resume your training with renewed vigor.
Should your vacation extend beyond 14 days, some deconditioning usually begins. This can easily be prevented by what is known as "active rest". Active rest is substituting different exercise than which your body is accustomed. If you weight train and jog consistently, try pilates, yoga, biking, hiking, swimming, or a new sport.
