Westchester Woman Launches Makeup Line

Alexa Persico created her own cosmetics and is now selling her products online.

For Alexa Persico, it all began at the age of seven, stealing her mother's lipstick to beautify her Barbie's.

Now, the 20-year-old from Yonkers, who lives on the Scarsdale border, is a well-known makeup artist with her own cosmetics line.

The beauty-lover launched Alexa Persico Cosmetics in July, realizing a childhood dream.

"Makeup been a passion of mine since I was a little girl," Persico told Patch. "I want to make people pretty. Even at 14, I told my mom I wanted to be a makeup artist and start my own line one day."

Now, in addition to doing wedding makeup, personal makeup lessons and makeovers, Persico sells her own lip colors, eye shadows, blush and concealers.

"The line (has) the perfect combo of high quality makeup and it's affordable," she said, adding that her goal is to "inspire women to look their best."

Prior to launching her line, Persico had been "spending thousands on owning every high quality makeup brand out there" to use on her clients.

Now, her makeup line allows women to own that high-quality makeup at a lower cost.

"Every girl wants great makeup and doesn’t want to spend a fortune," the makeup artist said.

The young entrepreneur said it took two years of research and about four years total to create her cosmetics line.

"I didn't want to rush into it," she said, noting she also wanted to avoid animal testing.

Persico has seven products in her line, including lipgloss, lipstick, gel eyeliner, eye shadow palettes, lip and eye primer and concealer.

"Every product in the line is under $25 and I want to keep it at that," she said. "That's what I love most about it."

The young business owner said she was inspired by her father's business sense and makeup guru Bobbi Brown.

She hopes to have her line sold in boutiques and stores one day, but for now, her products are sold online only.

Persico's best makeup advice? To be confident.

"I tell this to everybody," she said. "The best makeup tip of all is to be confident in yourself…you have to have a good personality. Makeup only can do so much."
