Local Business Named One Of State's Best

Quorum Federal Credit Union has been named one of the best companies to work for in New York State.

PURCHASE - A statewide organization has recognized Quorum Federal Credit Union, located on Manhattanville Road in Purchase, as one of the best places to work in New York State.

The company was named the nineteenth best company of its size to work for by the New York State Society for Human Resource Management and the Best Companies Group. It was honored in a banquet in Albany earlier this year.

"We're really proud of it, we are honored," said Glenn Shuster, the company's vice president of human resources and training. "We really care about our employee's success and making sure that they get the right training, development and benefits."

Quorum Federal Credit Union in a not-for-profit federally insured financial institution, as a whole handles banking for companies from locations in the state as far away as Buffalo. The Purchase branch handles money for local companies including Bresnan, Hitachi Metals, IntegraMed, Nutrition 21 and Pernod Ricard and has called Harrison home since 2003.

The positive attitude that earned the outside validation is obvious starting on the first day working for the company, according to Shuster, who said he started working there last year.

"I recognized right away that we have a very good story to tell in regards to our employee benefits, in regards to our culture, in the way we treat our employees," he said.

This is the first year the company has taken part in survey, which breaks down data and analysis information taken from employees at different branches of each participating company. It has not been released how many other companies took part.

According to a company spokesperson, Quorum Federal Credit Union boasts a relaxed working atmosphere, flexible working hours and a hands-on CEO who spends lunches with employees to get to know them on a personal basis.

The business model of treating employees well has paid off so far, according to Shuster. He says that the idea comes from branches within the entire company and has kept talented workers with the company and encouraged a positive working environment.

"I believe a happy work force will really be much more engaged with our members," he said. "They will stay here longer and they feel good about coming to work every day."
