Westchester Philharmonic Season Closer Promises "All-Beethoven Perfection"

Pianist Jeremy Denk and Young Star Conductor Tito Muñoz will close the season on June 28th-29th. The Philharmonic's main stage performances take place at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College.

The Westchester Philharmonic will soon conclude this year's series of concerts in its 30th anniversary season. On Friday, June 28th at 8:00 pm and Saturday, June 29th at 3:00 pm, Tito Muñoz will lead the orchestra, joined by pianist Jeremy Denk, in a program of all-Beethoven perfection.

Denk has built a reputation as an unusual and compelling artist, with a broad and thought-provoking repertoire, according to a release from the Westchester Philharmonic. He has appeared as soloist with many major orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the symphony orchestras of Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and London.

Denk is also known for his witty and personal music writing, which has appeared in the New Yorker, the front page of the New York Times Book Review.

Tito Muñoz, according to the release, is increasingly recognized as one of the most gifted conductors of his generation. Rising quickly from assistant conductorships at Cleveland and Cincinnati, he was recently named music director at the celebrated Opera National de Lorraine and has already guest-conducted the leading orchestras of the world in his young career.

The June 28 and 29 concerts feature two of Beethoven’s most admired works: Overture to the ballet Creatures of Prometheus and the master's brilliant “Pastoral” Symphony No. 6. Denk will be featured in Robert Schumann’s lone concerto for piano which, according to the release, remains among the most beloved in the repertoire, and demands of the soloist both virtuosic technique and sensitive musicianship.

Guest artists Muñoz and Denk will appear one hour before each performance for a pre-concert discussion with Philharmonic executive director Joshua Worby. Audiences are also invited to a free open rehearsal with the orchestra scheduled for Friday, June 28 at 3:00pm. Families and children are welcome. Please visitwww.westchesterphil.org for updates.
