Westchester Philharmonic Sets Season-Ending Concert for June 15

The June 15 performance will be held at the Westchester Philharmonic's Concert Hall at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College, 735 Anderson Hill Road, in Purchase.

The following announcement is from the Westchester Philharmonic:

At its season finale on Sunday, June 15th at 3pm, the Westchester Philharmonic will proudly present two young, ground-breaking artists, conductor Ryan McAdams and violinist Tai Murray whose extraordinary talents have commanded soaring praise from critics, audiences, and peer musicians.

Ryan McAdams garnered this praise from Anthony Tommasini in the New York Times: "Clearly establishing himself as one of the most exciting and versatile conductors of his generation", his recent debut with the Israel Philharmonic was hailed as "extraordinary," "masterful," and "immense[ly] dramatic" by the Jerusalem Post. Other acclaimed engagements include appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, New York City Opera, Indianapolis Symphony, Tanglewood Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, and Glimmerglass Opera.

McAdams will be joined by violinist Tai Murray, an Avery Fisher Career Grant winner, Sphinx Competition winner and BBC New Generation Artist. Her recent debuts include the Houston and Dallas Symphony Orchestras, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra as well as re-engagements with the Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras.  “Technically flawless”, “vivacious and scintillating”, Murray will bring her elegance, effortlessness, and sheer passion to an unforgettable performance of Mendelssohn’s famed Violin Concerto.

Perhaps best known for his music in the films of Stanley Kubric, the orchestra will also perform Gyōrgy Ligeti’s Concert Românesc. One of the most innovative and important musical thinkers of last half century, Ligeti’s colorful Concert Românesc was inspired by Romanian folk music. Ryan McAdams will guide the concert, and the Philharmonic’s 2013-14 season, to its close with the exquisite Serenade No. 1, one of Brahms’ earliest orchestral works.

Tickets holders can also enjoy a free pre-concert discussion at 2 pm with McAdams, Murray, and Executive and Artistic Director Joshua Worby. A free open rehearsal will be held in The Concert Hall at 11 am. Children and families welcome.

Single tickets range from $30-$97. Student/child/group discounts are available. To purchase all tickets and for additional information call the Westchester Philharmonic Box Office at914-682-3707 ext. 10 or visit www.westchesterphil.org
