The Real Cop of Sleepy Hollow Meets Star of Hit Fox Series

Officer Wendy Yancey has been enjoying a little local fame as folks jokingly call her Abbie Mills, the female cop fighting the threat of Armageddon and all sorts of insanity with her time-traveling buddy Ichabod Crane in the bonkers and super-popular Sleepy Hollow show.

However, more people may be getting to know Yancey's name on a national scale as they learn that the real Sleepy Hollow also happens to have a black female cop, with a sister, and that she in fact is Sleepy Hollow’s only female cop. This is a coincidence the series' creators and stars (who must read Patch!) may not have intended but are certainly enjoying.

Yancey and her coincidental television counterpart, played by Nicole Beharie, got to meet this weekend in front of a room of 2,200 cheering fans at the huge Comic Con event in NYC.

When Yancey got a call last week – at police headquarters – inviting her to meet the show’s stars, she thought it was a joke from her fellow officers. Until she noticed the Los Angeles area code.

“The gentleman I spoke with said ‘the staff, especially Orlando [Jones, playing the captain] and Nicole, would love to meet you.” Yancey of course said yes and brought along her sister Cindy and a friend, also Cindy. “It was awesome.”

“The entire staff including producers were so nice and they couldn't believe that I actually existed,” Yancey said. “Nicole as well as Orlando Jones were very down to earth. I immediately put my hand forward to shake their hands and they both said ‘we don't do hand shakes, we do hugs.’ Nicole ran towards me saying ‘hey girl.’ It was like she and I met before and were long time friends. They also couldn't believe that my sister Cindy existed as well.”

Beharie was asked by a reporter what the inspiration was for her character and she said that there wasn’t really an inspiration, but that, by chance, there was this real black female officer and she was here. "And I was introduced to the audience,” Yancey said.

The cast told Yancey they did have plans to film in our village, which would make many viewers here – longing for more than a few intermittent aerial shots between scenes – very happy for sure.

Yancey was also excited to report she met Hulk Hogan at Comic Con. While he may not star in Sleepy Hollow, anything's possible.
