Target Picture Story Saturdays: Jerry Pinkney

The Katonah Museum of Art (www.katonahmuseum.org) welcomes award-winning author and illustrator Jerry Pinkney, who will read from his 2010 Caldecott Medal-winning book, The Lion and the Mouse on Saturday, June 12 at 10:30am. Part of the Museum's Target Picture Story Saturday series, the program will include a book-signing and hands-on art activity inspired by the tale. For more information about this free event, call (914) 232-9555 ext. 0 or email info@katonahmuseum.org.

Pinkney's adaptation of the Aesop fable, The Lion and the Mouse captures - through beautiful illustrations - the unlikely friendship between two creatures. Books and matching puppets will be available for purchase at the Museum.

Target Picture Story Saturdays encourage young children (ages 3 to 6) to use the stories they hear and see as inspiration for their own artwork. Parents also learn how to have conversations with their children about the stories and how to use books as launching points for creative learning.
