“Possibilities/Energy Paintings”

Art Exhibit: “Possibilities/Energy Paintings” by
Rosalind Brenner MFA ‘09

Yonkers, N.Y.- A solo show of work by artist Rosalind Brenner MFA’09, “Possibilities/Energy
Paintings” will run from January 3 - May 20 in the Gallery of the Esther Raushenbush Library at
Sarah Lawrence College. In this exhibit are figurative abstract paintings, collage, and poems as
well as the artist’s debut book of paintings and poems, All That's Left. An Opening Reception
will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 3 p.m.

According to her artist’s statement, Rosalind Brenner’s art, both process and result, is an
expression of a mining of observation, exploration of symbol, color, form, shape, imagery and
wild imaginings. Mixing mediums, she achieves a tactility and fluidity, layering, building on the
play between depth and two-dimensionality.

In her visual art she will often start with words, which become a calligraphic design element
of the work, no longer readable, but adding a curious mix of in and out that draws forth a deep
observation of the picture plane as she layers it further. Her poetry is lyric and narrative and
creates a visual feast as she shapes words into imagistic landscape. The work evolves into
strength of statement as well as a field into which to travel.

Brenner’s poetry has been published in The Cortland Review, Poetrybay, Long Island Sounds,
The Southampton Review, Walt’s Corner in The Long Islander, Taproot Journal, Performance
Poets Association Literary Review, Ontologica, and in Arroyo Literary Review, among others.
It is included in Cave Moon Press’ anthology of poems against hunger, Broken Circles. She won
Honorable Mentions in The New Millennium national contests, one for essay, one for poetry.
Brenner received her MFA in Creative Writing from Sarah Lawrence College.
