East Meets West to Take Stage at Harrison Library

The husband and wife duo will perform a variety of opera, classical and contemporary music at the Harrison Library on May 6.

Artists couple Satoshi Kanazawa and Naoko Nakagawa will bring their variety of musical talents to the Harrison on May 6 for a performance that includes songs inspired from cultures around the world.

The free performance will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the .

Dubbed "East Meets West", the performance promises to include a variety of opera, classical and contemporary music, adding a sprinkle of Japanese culture to the lineup of events at the library.

Kanazawa, 35, has been performing with his wife in the United States since they came over from Japan six years ago. The couple has performed together for 10 years since meeting in college in Japan in 2002. The Queens-based performers typically play in Manhattan, but recently branched out to surrounding suburbs. This is their first performance in Harrison.

Kanazawa also teaches piano lessons in town, so he is familiar with Harrison.

"This area, Harrison, has a population of different nationalities," Kanazawa said. "It's very versatile, our program, a variety."

The performance will include piano and vocal music. Kanazawa composes his own music, including an emotional song about the earthquake and tsunami that ravaged Japan in April 2011.

The couple's performance open to the public.
